Sheldon Dean "Shoney" Webster Obituary
Sheldon "Shoney" Dean Webster, 89 years of age, and a resident of Lorain, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Saturday, August 12, 2017, at Elmcroft Assisted Living following a full and blessed life.
Shoney was born November 3, 1927, in Berea Ohio and was raised in Olmsted Falls graduating from Olmsted Falls High School. He then moved to Amherst for 23 years prior to making his home in Vermilion for the past 42 years.
Shoney attended Baldwin Wallace College and graduated from Kent State University in 1949 with a B.S. in Education. . He worked briefly for B & O Railroad as a weigh man and scale operator where he met his wife to be, Carol. He also worked for the Fuller Brush Corporation as a salesman and then district manager. Finally he worked for the Heath Candy Bar Company also known as Quality Service Products. Shoney made his living as a salesman of Reader's Digest to various schools throughout the area for 30 years He was a former member of Broadway Baptist where he married the love of his life Carol Ann Campbell.. Later he became a member of Faith Baptist Church in Amherst and a founding member of Trinity Evangelical Free Church of Amherst where he served as a member of the deacon board and building committee. Shoney was a charter member of Brownhelm Historical Society. He enjoyed playing sports, and in college he played football, baseball, and basketball. At the age of 68 he attended the Indians Fantasy Camp and was able to get a hit off of Bob Feller. Shoney had a great sense of humor which included playing practical jokes on those around him. In his spare time he collected marbles, played racquetball, and loved being outdoors.
Survivors include his sons, Greg and Sue Webster of San Diego, CA, Kevin and Gail Webster of Cincinnati, and Brian Webster of New Orleans, LA; eight grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and a sister, Wilma Thompson of Seneca, SC.
Shoney was preceded in death by his beloved wife of sixty-one years, Carol Ann Webster (nee: Campbell) in 2012; his sister, Dorothy Reik of Lansing, MI; and his parents, Dean and Stella Webster (nee: Hall).
Friends may call Wednesday, August 16, 2017, from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. at Trinity Evangelical Free Church, 46485 Middle Ridge Rd., Amherst OH 44001. Funeral services will be held at the church on Thursday at 10:30 a.m., with an opportunity for a final viewing from 10 am until the time of services. The Rev. Dr. Arnold Fleagle will officiate. Burial will follow at Brownhelm Cemetery, Brownhelm Township, Ohio.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Shoney and Carol Webster Scholarship Fund, set up to assist students bound for a Christian college education, in care of the church's address.
