Toby Leib Myers|
BARRINGTON, Ill. - Toby Leib Myers of Barrington, IL passed away on July 4, 2013 after a private, yet courageous 16 year battle with cancer at the age of 78.
She was born to the late Frank and Belle Leib on November 5, 1934 in Pittsburgh, Pa. Toby spent her formative years in Cleveland Heights, Ohio and graduated from Heights High School in 1953. She attended Ohio State University and later married the late Harrison Myers in 1957. They relocated to Lorain, Ohio where she and her husband raised their family. Toby was the ultimate homemaker. She was passionate about cooking, sewing and reading.
In later years, after her children were grown, Toby attended adult education classes at LCCC and volunteered at Lorain Community Hospital. She never met a stranger and always had a story or wise words of wisdom to impart to others. She will forever be missed by her children who always knew they could count on her for the truth followed by a joke to make her advice just a little sweeter.
Toby was a member of Agudath B'nai Israel Synagogue and was active in Hadassah, Sisterhood and The Board of Education. She was a member and attended Beth Tikvah Congregation in Hoffman Estates, Illinois.
Toby is survived by her four children, Steven (Marlene) Myers of West Bloomfield, Mich., Michael (Judi) Myers of Palatine, Ill., Amy (Robert) Snetman of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Elizabeth (Edward) Slesnick of Canton, Ohio.
She is survived by her eight grandchildren: Sam Myers, Cecily Myers, Emily Myers, Jordan Snetman, Blake Snetman, Cooper Myers, Rachel Slesnick and Isabel Slesnick as well as her sister, Arlene (Arnold) Shapiro, sister-in-law Arlene Kaplan and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held Sunday morning at 11 o'clock at Salem Cemetery in Lorain, Ohio with Rabbi Werber officiating the service.
The family requests that any memorial contributions be made in Toby's honor to the
or to a charity that is personally meaningful to the donor.
