Velma Marie (Weigl) Bonar Obituary
HOUSTON, Texas - Velma Marie Bonar (nee Weigl), age 91 of Houston, Texas, died peacefully on June 23, 2013 in Houston, Texas.
Velma (also known as Mommie Bones) was born on September 4, 1921 in Lorain, moving to Sheffield Lake in 1953, Las Vegas in 1994 and then to Houston in 2008.
She graduated from Lorain High School in 1939.
She was employed at Bendix Westinghouse in Elyria for 30 years, retiring in 1978.
While living in Lorain County she was a member of the St. Thomas Catholic Church, and also the former St. Ladislaus Catholic Church, where she was a member of the St. Ann's Auxiliary Golden Agers Pension Club.
Velma enjoyed playing the organ, writing poetry, playing cards, line dancing, bowling and traveling.
She is survived by her loving sons, Richard of Las Vegas, NV, James Bonar, MD and his wife Tamara Klosz Bonar of Houston, TX, 5 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, sister Malvina (nee Weigl) Moldovan of San Clemente, CA, brothers, William Weigl of Dayton, OH, and Donald Weigl of Powell, OH.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, George Bonar in 1993, son, Larry Bonar, parents Karl and Anna (nee Szivan) Weigl, grandson, Paul Bonar, sister Anna (nee Weigl) Muska, brothers, Karl Weigl, John Weigl, Joseph Weigl and David Weigl.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 13th, at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain, for services. The Rev. Fr. Stephen Shields, Pastor, of St. Thomas The Apostle Catholic Church, Sheffield Lake, will officiate.
The Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, is handling arrangements.
