Victor Koler Jr. Obituary
THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - Victor Koler, Jr., proud father of two, producer, composer and musician, passed away November 20, 2013 in Thousand Oaks, California at the age of 60 from cancer.
Vic was born on February 28, 1953 in Lorain, Ohio.
Vic was a 1971 graduate of Admiral King High School in Lorain, Ohio, and attended both the University of Cincinnati (Cincinnati, Ohio) and the University of Miami (Coral Gables, Fla.) where he studied music and jazz.
Vic grew up playing traditional music in Lorain. He then studied, lived and played music in Miami (Florida) for 12 years before moving to Los Angeles area, not counting the year spent in Paris playing a jazz gig. His favorite quote is from Albert Einstein (when asked about the theory of relativity), "It occurred to me by intuition, and music was the driving force behind that intuition. My discovery was the result of musical perception."
Vic's musical talents were great as the genre's he was adept in included, jazz, blues, classical, rock classic, country, folk, ethnic (including klezmer) and he loved all of them equally. Not only were his musical talents incredible, he was a remarkable father, son, brother and friend to many and all have witnessed his gentle soul, kind heart and unconditional love.
Vic is survived by a daughter, Ashley and son, Brendon, both of Newbury Park, Calif.; his mother, Katherine (Tinka) Atthanasoff and sister Stefanie Vaught both of Winter Garden, Fla.; Rick Rebman of Lorain, Ohio, Chris Luke of Murrieta, Calif., Emery Kapples of Jacksonville, Fla. and Paul Fabanich of Lorain, Ohio, all Vic's brothers in spirit; and Roy Kudrin of Sheffield Village, Ohio, the man who put the first instrument into Vic's hands at the age of 8.
Vic was preceded in death by his father Victor Koler, Sr., in 1998.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Rose Family Funeral Home in Simi Valley, Calif. The viewing will be on December 2 from 5-9 p.m. with a Greek Orthodox vigil at 7 p.m. Greek Orthodox service will be at the funeral home with on December 3 at 10 a.m. with the burial following at the Simi Valley Public Cemetery.
