LORAIN - William J. Howard, 99, a long time resident of the Lorain area, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday November 23, 2011 at Kingston of Vermilion Nursing home.

Mr. Howard was born in Wilson N.C. on July 18, 1912. William Howard graduated with an associate's degree in business administration from Tuskegee University. He was a Ford Motor Co. retiree of Local 425 Lorain Oh. William was a member of Sacred Heart Parish & a long time member of the Gentry club, and was also a "Black Foot Indian". William also wrote short stories for Readers Digest under the pin name Jerome Black.
Mr. Howard is survived by his children sons: William J. Howard Jr., Otis S. Howard, Winston G. Howard, Tyrone Howard, Jerome Howard, Lance Howard, Lune Carl Thornton Jr., Reno Thornton., daughters: Emilie Jackson, Mary A. Nix, Sherrie Ann Thornton. He has many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grand children, extended family & friends who loved him dearly. His life was cherished and he will be missed by all.
William was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Ophelia Howard, and his second wife Christine Howard, his sons: Glenn Howard, Ronald Thornton and his two brothers: Samuel (Buster) Howard, Oliver Howard.
Friends may call Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel 3001 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, Ohio from 6-8 p.m and also on Wednesday, November 30, 2011 from 4-6 until the time of service at The Sacred Heart Chapel at 4301 Pearl Ave, Lorain, Ohio 44055.
