LORAIN - Willie Lee Shumpert, 61, of Lorain, passed away peacefully in his home on Nov. 7, 2013, following a long illness.|
He was born in Tupelo, Miss., and came to Lorain in 1969.
He was employed as a line and machine operator for Vectoron Inc. in Elyria for 25 years before his illness, and also had worked at the Lorain Ship Yard. He had attended New Hope Baptist Church, Lorain.
Mr. Shumpert enjoyed bike riding, working on neighborhood children's bikes, was an avid fisherman and he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Mr. Shumpert will be sadly missed by his wife of 33 years, Tanya Williams-Shumpert; son, Eric Williams of Lorain; one granddaughter, Diane Davis of Lorain; four godchildren; sisters, Ida Delores Young, Carolyn (Joe) Weatherspoon and Anita (Ellis) Young, all of Lorain and Teresa Young of Grand Rapids, MI; brothers, Billie (Debbie) Shumpert, James (Irene) Young and Curtis Young, all of Lorain, Perry (Audrey) Young of Elyria and Keith (Stephanie) Young of Atlanta, GA.; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, McKinley and Hattie Mae (nee Watson) Young; sisters, Virginia Watkins, Ida Marie Young and Lillie Pearl Bacon; brother, Mac Kenneth Young; and niece, Karen Young.
Friends may call Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2013, from 10 a.m. until time of services at 11 a.m. in the Shiloh Baptist Church, Lorain. The Rev. Dr. Peter Tower will officiate. Burial in Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain.
