ELYRIA - Olga Jean Squires (nee Yacko), 87 years of age and a resident of Elyria, passed away Saturday, February 1, 2014, at University Hospital Elyria Medical Center.
Olga was born October 8, 1926, in E. McKeesport, PA, and graduated in 1944. She moved to Lorain in 1947 and then moved to Amherst in 1963. Elyria had been her home since 2004.
Beyond her care for her family as a homemaker, she worked for the former Czuba's Grocery Store in Lorain, Lakewood Bakery, and Arnold's Cookie Jar. She was a woman who loved to serve and would aid the many residents of Albright Terrace as a grocery shopper. She also was active with her husband with the Lorain Chapter of the Masonic Lodge, volunteering her time to aid their work. She also was very active in the Lorain Chapter of the Eastern Stars.
Survivors include her nephew, Dale (Patricia) Skelly of Grafton; as well as other nieces and nephews; and brothers, John Yacko of E. McKeesport, PA and Peter Yacko of N. Huntington, PA.
Olga was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, David A. Squires in 1997; sisters, Ann Langer, Sonia Tret and Helen Milliron; and her parents, Anthony and Martha Yacko (nee: Hrynyk).
Friends may call Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014, from 10 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Burial will follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park Cemetery in Amherst Township.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to The Center Building Fund at Beulah Beach, 6101 W. Lake Road, Vermilion, OH 44089.
