AVON LAKE – Bill Coughlin, 93, of Avon Lake and formerly of Sheffield Lake and Arlington, MA, passed away Friday, February 7, 2014, at the Main Street Care Center in Avon Lake.|
Bill was born September 11, 1920, in Cambridge, MA. He served in the Coast Guard during World War II, stationed in Mayport, FL and Charleston, SC, patrolling the East Coast for enemy submarines.
He was employed as a supervisor with Ford Motor Company and transferred to the Lorain Assembly Plant during his career, retiring in 1985. Bill was a member of St. Joseph Church in Avon Lake and St. Thomas Church in Sheffield Lake, the V.F.W., and while in Arlington coached little league baseball and was active with the Boy's Club. Bill was a huge Notre Dame and Red Sox fan, a history buff, and enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, running and golfing.
Mr. Coughlin is survived by his children, William (Evelyn) of Natick, MA, Foozie Frank (Richard) of Avon Lake, Michael of Sheffield Lake, Frank (Sheryl) of Avon Lake and Miriam Leen (Harry) of Jacksonville, FL; 12 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances in 2005; son, Tom; grandsons Brian Coughlin and Joseph Frank; and his parents, Charles and Miriam (nee Browne).
Friends may call at the Busch Funeral Home, 163 Avon-Belden Road, Avon Lake, from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday.
Prayer services will be held at the funeral home Tuesday, February 11 at 9:15 a.m. followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph Church, 32929 Lake Road, Avon Lake, OH 44012, at 10 a.m. Fr. Ron Wearsch will officiate. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Avon.
