AMHERST - Ruth Roberta Schibley (nee: Riddle), 91 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Monday, February 17, 2014 at Christanella Adult Care in Avon Lake.
She was born February 7, 1923 in Birmingham Township. Ruth was raised and lived in the Birmingham and Amherst area, graduating from Amherst High School.
Ruth was employed at Lorain Products as a secretary in the engineering department. She was a member of the Old Stone United Methodist Church in Amherst. She was active with the Ladies Friendship Circle. She was a member of the Amherst VFW ladies auxillary and member and past president of SCOA. Ruth enjoyed playing cards and the fellowship that it included with family and friends.
Survivors include her son and his wife Robert and Sandra Schibley of Elyria; one granddaughter; one step grandson and one step great granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-three years Ervin "Bob" Albert Schibley on August 31, 1999; her daughter Cheryl Kosla in 2012; her brothers James, John and Nelson Riddle; her sisters Margaret Armstrong, Lucille Twigg, Mildred Shaeffer; and her parents.
Friends may call Thursday, February 20, 2014, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 12:00 at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. The Rev. Daniel Reinke, pastor of Amherst United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will follow at Birmingham Cemetery, Birmingham Township.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to New Life Hospice; 3500 Kolbe Road, Lorain, OH 44053 or ; P.O. Box 897, Hershey, PA 17033.
