LORAIN - Robert "Smitty" Smith, 75 of Lorain went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 following a short illness at New Life Hospice of Lorain. Born in Clairton, Pennsylvania.
He attended New Bethel Primitive Baptist Church, Lorain. Mr. Smith was a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force and he retired from Ford Motor Company, Lorain in 2000. After his retirement Mr. Smith was very active in many different positions. He was a Supervisor Captain for Continental Security and he worked for Gray Security of Cleveland. He also held the rank of Captain for the Lorain Police Auxiliary, President of the Iron Stallions Motorcycle Club of Lorain County, member of Amvets Post 32 of Elyria. He was a Funeral Escort for Frances Escort Service and Funeral Escort for Carter Funeral Home Inc. where he also worked as a limo driver. He was a member of GWRRA Chapter H-2 of Cleveland were Smitty and his wife Pat were couple of the year in 2012 and 2013. He enjoyed camping, fishing, motorcycle riding and spending time with his family.
He will be sadly missed by his wife of 18 years Patricia Smith (nee Hall), his mother Rena Taylor of Lorain, daughters Robin Chapman, Regina (David) Aaron, Ernestine (John) Mincy, Kim Cosme, Bobby Jean Jackson and Thresa Hall, all of Lorain. Sons Robert Johnson and Michael Johnson, both of Lorain. Sisters Marcella (Thomas) Smalley, Sherdenia Strnad, Mary Ann Wyrick, Charmaine Taylor, Bernetta Geiger, Juanita Mosley, all of Lorain. Brothers, Isiah Taylor Sr. of Lorain and adopted brother Dennis (Kenndria) Carter of Elyria, twenty grandchildren, thirty-four great grandchildren, brother in laws Robert Moss and Tommy Hall of Columbus, OH, and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Preceded in death by his father Rozell Booker, grandparents Mary and Luther Grinston, brothers Joseph Taylor Sr. and Morgan "Butch" Taylor.
Friends may call Sunday March 2, 2014 in the Carter Funeral Home Chapel, 3001 Elyria Avenue, Lorain from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Services will be Monday, March 3, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the Church on the North Coast 4125 Leavitt Road, Lorain. The Reverend Tyrone Holley Pastor of New Bethel Primitive Baptist Church will officiate. Burial in Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain.
