VERMILION - Howard Ross Zicefoose, 85, of Vermilion, passed away Sunday, March 2, 2014, at Specialty Hospital Amherst, after several years of being afflicted with many health problems.
Howard was born July 8, 1928, in Pickens, WV, the 5th of James A. and Lillia Ann Light Zicefoose's 6 children. When he was 17 years of age, the family moved to the Buckhannon, WV area.
On January 9, 1948, he and Hazel Lois Cutright were united in marriage and lived in Buckhannon, WV. To them was born a son, Robert Ross and a daughter, Carol Ann.
In 1952, they moved to Vermilion, and he was employed at General Motors in Elyria. After being laid off, he worked at service stations in Vermilion, eventually purchasing one from George Roberts, for whom he had been employed for several years. In 1988, he was employed by Crow Lumber Co., and later North Ridge Manufacturing.
He loved hunting, fishing and woodworking, especially building porch swings. Family and animals were an important part of his life.
Howard was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Richard Clare, James Donald and Gerald Glen; sister, Oneta Tatterson; and daughter, Carol Ann Brown.
He is survived by his wife, Hazel Lois; son, Robert; 5 grandchildren; sister, Rita Miles of Bridgeport, WV; daughter-in-law, Joyce; and a son-in-law.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 4, 2014, from 4-7 p.m. at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South St., Vermilion.
Calling hours will also be held at the Poling St. Clair Funeral Home, 95 S. Kanawha St., Buckhannon, WV, Wednesday, March 5, 2014, from 6-8 p.m. Graveside services will be Thursday, March 6, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Lanham Cemetery, Queens, WV.
