Deacon Willie Flowers Jr.
LORAIN - Deacon Willie Flowers Jr., 76, of Lorain, Ohio passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2014 in Specialty Hospital of Lorain following a lengthy illness.
He was born June 7, 1937 in Beulah, Miss. and had lived in Lorain since 1954. He was a member of New Morning Star Primitive Baptist Church of Lorain where he served as a Deacon, Trustee, and a former Sunday School Superintendent. He was a founding member and lead singer of The Seven Travelers, a gospel singing quartet that travel throughout the country. He was a radio host of "New Sound in Gospel" on 1040 AM WJTB, where he was known as "Praying Man", and was also a singer in the Katrina County Choir.
Willie retired from the Lorain Ford Motor plant after 30 years of service and was a member of UAW Local 425. He was a league bowler at Rebman Recreation in Lorain and was an avid fan of the Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Browns.
Deacon Willie Flowers Jr. will be sadly missed by his wife of 53 years, Marcelle Flowers (nee Hackney); his children: Andrea (Danny) Hoskins, Anita (Billy) Taylor, Willie Flowers III, Reginald Weatherington, Antoinette Flowers, Alivia (Desmond) Moore, Dorothy Flowers, Sunja Flowers, Jatonya Charlton, Ania Phillips, and Branden Phillips; 33 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren; two brothers, Joseph (Tonya) McFadden, and Jeff (Elaine) Flowers; aunt, Erie Willis; a host of nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Willie Flowers Sr., mother, Ida Pearl Willis (nee Lacey); stepfather, Scott Willis; grandparents, Jeff and Cora Banks; and a sister, Clora Bee Young.
Visitation will be held Monday, March 31, 2014 from 6-9pm, with a musical service starting at 7pm at Compassion Baptist Church, 520 W 22nd St, Lorain, where funeral will be held Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at 12:00 pm. Elder Douglas Price, Pastor of New Morning Star Primitive Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Lorain.
