AMHERST – Lars A. Carlson, age 85 and a former resident of Amherst, passed away Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at Stein Hospice, Sandusky, after a brief illness. Lars was a resident of the Ohio Veterans Home, Sandusky, for the past 2 1/2 years.
Lars was born in Akron, June 9, 1928, to the late Lars Collin and Eva Elinor Carlson. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. While based at Otis Air Force Base in Falmouth, Massachusetts, Lars met his future wife Lorraine and they were married 58 years at her death in 2007. For 32 years he was employed at the Ford Motor Company, Lorain Assembly, as an inspector. While working at Ford, Lars and his family resided in Sheffield Lake, Lorain, and Amherst.
Lars loved the Cleveland Indians and Browns, reading the Morning Journal, playing poker and bingo, and travelling to casino's.
Survivors include his daughter Valerie Carlson (Duane Harnegie) of North Olmsted, his grandson Eric and his wife Courtney Erickson of Maryland.
In addition to his wife and parents, Lars was preceded in death by his sisters Sally Mandich and Bea Dido.
