AMHERST - Joyce M. (nee Plas) Meyer, age 67, a resident of Amherst, passed away Sunday, May 4, 2014, at University Hospitals in Cleveland, Ohio.|
Joyce was born April 17, 1947, in Elyria, Ohio and attended Elyria Catholic High School graduating with the class of 1965. Amherst has been her home for the last 47 years.
As a dedicated wife and mother, Joyce stayed at home to care for her family as well as offering home childcare for over 25 years. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and was involved in the TOPS group that met at Park Avenue United Methodist Church. Joyce was also a member of the Red Hat Society and was an original member of the "Friday Night Daisys". She was a garage sale diva searching for treasures and bargains and also enjoyed displaying her ceramic holiday village houses throughout the year. By far her favorite past time was spending time with her friends, family, and especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Donald J. Meyer: her sons, Don (Diane) Meyer of Amherst, Jim (Cathy) Meyer of Strongsville, Adam Meyer (fiancee Amanda Shiltz) of Amherst; her daughters, Kim Meyer Gibson of Amherst, Kathy Jo (Mark) Carpenter of N. Ridgeville, Sara (Pete) Kelly of Amherst; grandchildren; Taylor Mae, Olivia, Dakota, Maggie, Emily, Hunter, Alex, Ethan, Xavier, Sydney, Nadia, and Amelia; her brothers, Michael (Barbara Dellefield) Plas of Amherst, John Plas of Springfield, Vt., Jeffrey (Marjorie) Plas of Lincoln, Neb., Martin (Carol) Plas of North Ridgeville, Scott (Kim) Plas of Amherst; her sisters, Gayle (Guy) Loudermilk of Renicks Valley, W.Va., Jill McCoy of Mentor, Deborah (Thomas) Kaminski of McCook, Neb. and Lauren (Mark) Sabo of Elyria; and her brother-in-law, Don Diedrick of Amherst.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Ann (nee Meeks) Plas; sister, Bonnie Jean Diedrick.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2014, at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst.
A mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Amherst, Ohio.
