SHEFFIELD LAKE - Doralla Elizabeth (nee Spates) Folk, age 79, of Sheffield Lake, formerly of Mapleton, Kansas, passed away Friday, May 9, 2014, at home with her family by her side.
She was born June 14, in Seguin, Texas. Growing up, the family moved to Lompoc, California; then to Six Mile Run, Pennsylvania; Coolidge, Arizona; Mapleton, Kansas; and for the past seven years, she had lived in Sheffield Lake.
Mrs. Folk was a homemaker and worked for a time as a home health aid.
Doralla enjoyed reading and gardening, her garden was the envy of the neighborhood. Her family described her as one before her time, taking on tasks that women of her generation just didn't do, such as home renovation. But it was caring for her family that was her true calling.
Doralla is survived by children: Vaughn Matthew Folk (Ronda) of Six Mile Run, Pa.; Pamela Lee Gill (Keith) of Altoona, Pa.; David William Folk (Kathie) of Sheffield Lake; Charles Edward VanPelt of Elyria. Other survivors include eight grandchildren: Ronald, Elizabeth, Vaughn, Charles, Hollie, Justin, Elisia and Justine; and 10 great-grandchildren, Travis, Candence, Vaughn, Brandon, Devin, Tristen, Elizabeth, Mara, Alexia and Aleena; and a great-great-granddaughter, Genevieve. She is also survived by brother Ivy Lee Spates of Bloomfield, N.M. and sister Fanny Lorraine Sockrider of Costa Del Rio, Calif.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Vaughn, who passed away in 2005; daughter, Mary Ann VanPelt; son, Mark Thomas Folk; and parents, Thomas Oakley and Delma Lorraine (nee Peoples) Spates.
A celebration of Doralla's life will take place at the family home on June 14.
