LORAIN - Dorothy (nee Vangeloff) Ruth, age 89, of Lorain, passed away on Friday, June 6, 2014, at the Amherst Manor Retirement Community, in Amherst, following a long illness.
She was born in Lorain on February 7, 1925. She lived most of her life in Lorain, moving to Amherst Manor in 2011.
Dorothy was an outstanding student athlete at Clearview High School, gaining many academic, athletic, and extracurricular honors. She was a champion bowler for many years and enjoyed reading, playing cards, bingo, family pets, and the outdoors.
She is survived by her children, Rick C. Ruth (Frances) of Avon Lake, Charles J. Ruth of Lorain, Julie A. Ruth (William) of Amherst; grandchildren, Kimberly Toncar, Gretchen Cusick, Natalie Aldrich, Charles Ruth, Thomas Ruth, Patrick Ruth; great-grandchildren, Rene Toncar, Reese Toncar, Ellerie Cusick, Reid Cusick; and a brother George Vangeloff of Palm Bay, Florida.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles R. Ruth, in 1985; parents, Joseph and Julia (nee Atanasoff) Vangeloff; brothers, Alex Vangeloff and Dimitri Vangeloff.
A private graveside service was held for family members.Burial was in Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain.
