Carmen D. Rosario
AMHERST – Carmen D. Rosario, age 83, of Amherst passed away Monday, June 9, 2014 at her home under the care of New Life Hospice.
She was born on May 24, 1931 in Manhattan, New York to Jose and Rosalina (nee Sandoval) Colon. At the age of 12 she moved to Puerto Rico after her mother passed away. She graduated from Horace Mann High School in 1949 as the Salutatorian of her class. Upon her graduation she attended the University of Puerto Rico.
Carmen worked for the City of Lorain Auditors Office and as a billing counselor for the Lorain Utilities Department, retiring in 1993 after 28 years as a public employee. She was an avid gardener who was very proud of her beautiful gardens. She loved reading, music, watching movies, doing embroidery and cooking. She was a member of Sacred Heart Chapel.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Antonio "Tony" Rosario; daughter, Neysa E. Rosario, of Lorain; her son, Dr. Tony (Joyce) Rosario, of Marian, OH; grandchildren, Amanda Nicole Rosario, of Sayreville, New Jersey, Michael Anthony Rosario, of Sayreville, New Jersey and Matthew Ian Rosario, of Totowa, New Jersey; sisters, Annie (Dr. Samuel) Rouras, of Miami, Florida, Olga Parilla, of Woodside, New York and brother, Jose (Elsa) Colon Jr., of Toa Baja, Puerto Rico.
The Rosario family will receive friends on Friday, June 13, 2014 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst where Closing prayers will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2014 at 8:15 a.m. followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Ave., Lorain. Rev. Fr. William Thaden, Pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow at Ridgehill Memorial Park, Amherst Twp.
