Rita A. (Dettorre) Weir Obituary
LORAIN - Rita A. (nee: Dettorre) Weir, age 75, passed away peacefully June 21, 2014, at her residence surrounded by her loving family, after a heroic 17 month battle with pancreatic cancer.
Born on January 17, 1939, in Lorain, Ohio, Rita graduated from Lorain High School with the class of 1957. While working full time and raising a family, Rita earned her associate degree in Business Management from Lorain Community College. Rita worked 25 years as the administrative assistant to the district manager at Protection Mutual Insurance Company, retiring in 1999. Bruce and Rita raised their family in Fairview Park, and have resided in Westlake since 1993. Rita strongly believed in community service and was involved in several civic organizations, such as Fairview Jaycee Wives, Fairview Band Boosters, Girl Scouts, and Transplant Recipients International Organization (Trio).
Rita was the devoted wife for over 54 years of the late G. Bruce Weir; dear daughter of both the late Marshall and Olivia (nee: Dimacchia) Dettorre; and daughter-in-law of both the late Gamble and Margaret Weir.
She was the loving mother of Debora L. (Gary) Warncke and Carrie B. (Daniel) Copfer; proud grandmother of Christopher (Carolina), Matthew and Jonathan Warncke, Daniel Jr. and Amanda Copfer and great-grandmother of Ayden, Ethan and Isabella Warncke; beloved sister of Jeanne Scallen; and loyal friend, caregiver and inspiration to many.
Family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, June 24, at the Catavolos-Berry Funeral Home, 23040 Center Ridge Rd., Westlake. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, June 25, at St. Angela Merici Church, 20970 Lorain Rd., Fairview Park. Please meet at the church. Burial will be at Lakewood Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Rita's name to The Johns Hopkins University, designate pancreatic cancer research c/o Ralph H. Hruban, MD, Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions, 401 North Broadway, Weinberg 2242, Baltimore, Md. 21231-2410.
