George York Miller
George York Miller died under the care of Hospice on July 9, 2014 at the age of 98 after a brief illness. Born in Brownhelm graduating from Brownhelm High School in 1935, he served in the US Navy for four years after which he attended the Cleveland School of Welding. He was a welding supervisor at the American Shipbuilding Company and worked as a welding instructor for the US Navy during World War II. He then served on the William P. Palmer freighter on the Great Lakes. In 1976, George retired from the Bendix HVSG in Elyria where he was a welder for thirty years.
Mr. Miller was a member of St. Peter United Church of Christ, a life member of the LaGrange Fish and Hunt Club, and a former member of the Bendix Golf League. He was an avid fisherman and loved hunting and golfing.
He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Julia "Judy" (nee: Szarka) Miller and daughter Maxine Miller of Amherst, son Terry (Sheila) Miller of Baytown, Texas, sister Jane Crook of Florida, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Earl and Dora Miller (nee: Stabbel); sister Ruth Normandeau, brothers Cliff and Elmer Miller.
Services will be held privately by the family. Private graveside services to be held later at Brownhelm Cemetery, Brownhelm Township.
