George Mohn Homer Obituary
George Mohn Homer, Ph.D, passed away July 20, 2014 at Towne Center Skilled Nursing in Avon Lake, Ohio.
His death was preceded by wife Joanne Glatte Homer in 2009 and sister Mary Lou (Ripple) of Grand Junction, CO in 2005.
Two surviving daughters: Diane GH Albrecht and husband Gary Albrecht of Cincinnati, Ohio. Daughter Cheryl Ball and husband Douglas J Ball, two grandchildren: Rebecca Ball of Pittsburgh, PA and Hannah Ball of Linden, Michigan. He is also survived by niece Mary Lynn Wilmot of Grand Junction, Colorado and other extended family.
George was a WWII US Marine Corp Veteran and survived military conflict in Okinawa.
He attended Ohio University, University of Colorado for Masters, The Ohio State University BA '48, PhD '58, where he lettered in fencing.
He had a long career in Clinical and Bio Chemistry, pioneering the field of toxicology drug testing laboratories for Southern Ohio area. He was a founding member of the AACC (American Association of Clinical Chemistry). He is a retiree of RG Thomas Laboratory of Elyria, Ohio and of Elyria Memorial Hospital.
He was active in the Stephen's Ministry group of the Avon Lake United Church of Christ.
Memorial Service will be held @ 1:30pm at ALUCC in Avon Lake this Saturday, July 26, 2014.
