Dorothy M "Dotti" Grozik Obituary
VERMILION – Dorothy "Dotti" M. Grozik (nee Syrowski), age 65, and a resident of Vermilion, passed away on Sunday, August 17, 2014, after a sudden illness.
Dotti was born in Amherst, March 6, 1949, to the late Joseph and Anna (nee Konopka) Syrowski.
She was a 1967 graduate of South Amherst High School. After graduating High School, Dotti was employed in the banking industry throughout the Lorain County area until the late 1980's. While still employed in banking, she attended the extension program of Ashland College through Lorain County Community College and obtained a Bachelor of Education, graduating Summa Cum Laude.
Dotti was a sixth grade teacher at St. John the Baptist Catholic School, Lorain, for ten years. She then went on to teach the sixth grade at St. Mary's School in Vermilion, for the next ten years, until her retirement in 2012.
During her teaching career she sponsored Math-A-Thons, the proceeds of which were donated to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. While teaching at St. Mary's, she started a Christmas Gift drive, in which the school children and local businesses collected and donated Christmas gifts which were then driven to Wilmington to be distributed among the children in the community whose parents were affected by the closing of the DHL Shipping hub.
During the school year, she also coordinated field trips that the sixth graders went on to visit various Catholic and Orthodox churches in Greater Cleveland. On an annual basis Dotti also oversaw a parish pancake breakfast, whose proceeds were used to fund an overnight field trips for the sixth grade students. Another event that she took great pride in putting together was a mini-prom for the sixth graders. Her students would decorate the cafeteria and choose appropriate music for the dance. They would dress-up in their prom attire for the dance and enjoy each other's fellowship.
At the end of each school year, she produced the sixth grade play to be presented first to the school body, and in the evening to the parents and their families. All during her teaching career, Dotti tutored students after school in whatever subjects they needed assistance in.
Throughout her life she was very well respected and thought of as a kind, generous, and caring person.
She attended St. Mary's Catholic Church, Vermilion.

Grozik, of Westlake, sisters; Barbara Skolnicki, of Wakeman, Helen Skodny, of Lorain, and sister and brother-in-law, Marge and Jeff Stempowski, of Lorain, brother and sister-in-law, George and Denise Sirow, of Amherst, brother, Edward Syrowski, of Amherst, brother and sister-in-law, Andrew and Martha Syrowski, of Elyria, brother, Gerald Syrowski, of Louisville, KY, and many nieces and nephews.
