LORAIN - Robert E. Simmons, age 68, of Lorain, passed away in the early morning hours of Thursday May 3rd, 2012 at Mercy Regional Medical Center following an illness of three years.

He was born in Lorain on August 20, 1943 and remained a life-long resident of the city. He attended Lorain High School and went on to serve as a Petty Officer in the United States Navy from 1965 to 1967. Robert was presently employed as the warehouse manager for the Lorain Novelty Company and had formerly attended St. John United Church of Christ in Lorain. He was an avid collector of eclectic items.
Survivors include his brother Donald Simmons (Lynne) residing in Bradenton, Florida. He also leaves one niece, one nephew, and a host of cousins.
Mr. Simmons was preceded in death by his parents Frederick and Matilda (nee Schenker) Simmons, and by brothers Frederick, Jr. and James.
Visitation will be Monday May 7th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral chapel with the Reverend Robert Daugherty officiating. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
