Elmer Henderson, 67 years of age, and a resident of Lorain, passed away Sunday, October 28, 2012 at Mercy Regional Medical Center following a sudden illness.

Elmer was born October 8, 1945, in Portsmouth, Ohio where he was raised graduating from Portsmouth High School with the class of 1965. Portsmouth remained his home until he enlisted with the United States Army. He moved to Lorain in 1968 making it his home.
He retired from U. S. Steel Corporation after 35 years in 2003 as an inspector in the 3 seamless plant. He loved to play horseshoes and outdoor activities such as fishing and camping. He was a fan of Elvis and enjoyed karaoke.
Survivors include his wife of forty-seven years Lena Louise (nee: Riley): his son Elmer (Judy) Henderson, Jr.; his daughter Geneva "Jenny" McCoy; fourteen grandchildren; six great grandchildren; his brother Jack Crosby; and his sister Shirley (Rodger) Robbins.
Elmer was preceded in death by his sisters Rosemary Dyer, Ethel Fannin, Ruth Ann Conley; and his parents Wylie and Althea Henderson (nee: James).
Friends may call Wednesday, October 31, 2012 from 5 p.m. until the time of the service at 8 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Additional services and viewing will take place at the Scotts Funeral Home in Portsmouth, OH. Burial will take place in Siloam Cemetery, South Shore Kentucky.
