Charles Elmer Fleming Sr., 83 years of age, and a resident of Florida, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, Nov. 22, 2012 at Hope Hospice in Florida following a brief illness.

Charles was born on Oct. 25, 1929 in McRoberts, Ky. where he was raised. Charles came to Amherst in 1954, he had made his home in Florida since 1989.
He was employed at U.S. Steel in Lorain for 32 years before retiring in 1985. Charles was a member of First Baptist Church in Lehigh Acres, Fla. He was active with the Senior Center and loved to play pool and played competitively in different tournaments while living in Lehigh Acres. His hobbies included playing cards, bicycling and yard work.
Survivors include his sons and their wives, Edger "Ed" and Lila Fleming, of Wakeman, Steve and Linda Fleming, of Lorain, Charles "Chuck" Jr. and Jo Anne Fleming, of South Amherst, Aaron "Wayne" and Robin Fleming, of Lehigh Acres, Fla., Jack and Ann Fleming, of Lorain; his daughter and her husband, Cindi and Richard Keith, of Wellington; 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson; brothers, Alfred Fleming, of South Carolina and Orville Fleming, of Amherst.
He was preceded in death by his grandson, Brian Fleming on July 4, 2005; brother, Clarence Fleming and by his parents, George and Myrtle Fleming (nee Stewart).
Friends may call Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will take place Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012 at 1p.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Ed Wishart, pastor of Grace Community Church in Grafton, will officiate. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon.
