Kenneth "Ken" L. Harrison Sr.
CARMICHAELS, Pa. - Kenneth "Ken" L. Harrison Sr., age 81, a resident of Carmichaels, PA., died at home surrounded by his family after a long battle with cancer on February 2, 2013.
He was born in Crucible, Pennsylvania, December 10, 1931, son of the late Glasper M. and Mary Lou (nee Yoders) Harrison. Ken attended the Carmichaels area schools. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, was stationed in French Morocco and received the National Defense Service Medal. Prior to his relocation to PA., Ken worked at the Ford Motor Company in Lorain, Ohio, retiring in 1990 after 30 years of employment. He also acted as an auxiliary trooper for the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Surviving are his loving wife, Carol Ann Harrison, four children, Susan Tansey of Avon Lake, Ohio, Kenneth L. Harrison Jr. of Huron, Ohio, Lori A. (Robert) Mey of Vermilion, Ohio and Cyndy L. (Ronald) Nicolson of Avon Lake, Ohio, step-sons Leonard Lucas of Jackson, Michigan and Jeffrey Lucas, of Vermilion, Ohio; 11 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, siblings, brother George Harrison (Shara) of Las Vegas, Nevada, and sister Jeanne (Larry) Roberts of Henderson, Nevada, Uncle George (Dorothy) Harrison of Washington, PA., many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Deceased in addition to his parents is his brother Melvin Harrison in 2006.
Ken was an honorary lifetime member of Carmichaels American Legion Post 400, the 40/8 Voiture Organization and also an Honorary Member of the American Legion Auxiliary due to his love of cooking and baking Blue Ribbon winning pies for Legion Family functions. Ken enjoyed being outdoors working in his yard and vegetable garden and was an avid hunter and fisherman. His love of sports included participating in city league baseball in Ohio and football during his high school years. He will be absolutely missed by his 2 English Setters, 'Gypsy' and 'Freckles'.
Friends will be received on Wednesday, February 6th from 12:00 - 3:00 P.M. at Lesako Funeral Home, Dowlin Avenue, Carmichaels, PA. where services will follow with the Rev. John Poling officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center in Morgantown, West Virginia.
