Michael J. Showalter
BERLIN HEIGHTS - Michael J. Showalter, age 48 and a resident of Berlin Heights, died peacefully at his residence, Thursday, February 28, 2013, surrounded by his loving family.
Michael was born in Amherst, September 15, 1964, to the late Elsworth "Bob" and Wanda (nee Muniga) Showalter. He was a 1982 graduate of Firelands High School. For most of his life, Mike was a residential construction carpenter. For the past year, he was self-employed in the construction business and as a chimney sweeper, his business being A & M Chimney. He assisted local churches and the elderly with their repairs. Michael was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Amherst.
Since childhood, Mike enjoyed gardening and living off the land. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and spending time at the log cabin that he built. He was especially helpful with raising his grandchildren.
Survivors include his fiancée Angela Phillips of Berlin Heights, a daughter Brandi Krause of Berlin Heights, four grandchildren, three brothers, Gary (Cindy) of North Carolina, Tim of Wakeman, Tom (Dawn) of Oberlin, a sister Janice Showalter-Senn of Vermilion, seven nieces and nephews, and one great nephew.
Family will receive friends Sunday, 2-6 p.m., at the Garland-Misencik Funeral Home, 851 Park Avenue, Amherst. The funeral service will be 11 a.m., Monday, at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Brownhelm Cemetery, Vermilion. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made at any First Merit Bank in Michael's memory.
