Alan L. Beckstein WAKEMAN — Alan L. Beckstein, 68 years of age, and a resident of Wakeman, passed away Sunday, April 7, 2013, at Ames Family Hospice Center following a brave battle with cancer.

Alan was born July 17, 1944 in Elyria, Ohio, and spent his early years in Elyria attending St. Mary Catholic School and graduating from Elyria Catholic High School. He moved to Wakeman, Ohio in 1985 where he had made his home until the present. Alan worked as a machinist for Bettcher Industries for 25 years. He was a social member of the Vermilion American Legion. In his spare time, Alan enjoyed restoring cars and antique furniture, especially building and restoring antique clocks. Music was an important part of Alan's life and he belonged to the local band “The Sounds” and “ The Majestics” as a young man. He loved motorcycle riding, reading, gardening, keeping a saltwater aquarium, and traveling on cruises.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years Diane Lee Beckstein (nee: Peret): his sons Brian Beckstein of Oberlin, Jeff Beckstein of Elyria, and Jason Beckstein of Vermilion; and his sister Faith Beckstein of Elyria.
Alan was preceded in death by his brother Kenneth Beckstein, Harold Beckstein, Jr.,; and his parents Harold “Slim” and Lucille Beckstein (nee: Spinks). Friends may call Wednesday, April 10, 2013 from 5-8 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. from the funeral home. Burial will follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township, Ohio.
