Joey Gary
LORAIN - Joey Gary, 56, of Lorain, Ohio died Tuesday evening, April 9, 2013 in Mercy Regional Medical Center, Lorain. He was born on June 11, 1956 in Lorain, Ohio.
Joey graduated from Admiral King High School and attended Ohio State University. He played football and tennis in high school; he also played piano and the drums. Joey worked for the Gary family real estate business for many years. He previously was a paramedic and general contractor. He founded the Lighthouse Sailing School at the Spitzer Marina where he taught many people to sail on Lake Erie.
Through out his life, he was an avid boater and sail boat racer. Joey was a commodore of the Westlake Yacht Club and a member of the Blue Gavel; he held an international captain's license. He was a pilot and scuba diver. Joey attended ABI Synagogue, Lorain.
He was a loving father, husband, brother and son who possessed a love for life and people. Joey is survived by his wife, Kathy, his parents, Gerry Gary Mazorow and Gene Gary, his son, Jules, his sister, Jamie Gary Rufin and a vast host of friends.
Funeral services and burial will be Friday, April 12, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. in Salem Cemetery, 1459-1461 North Ridge Road, East, Sheffield Twp., Ohio 44055 with Cantor David Wolinsky officiating. The family will be receiving friends and loved ones from 2:30 p.m. until 6 p.m. at the Westlake Yacht Club, 400 Colorado Avenue, Lorain, Ohio 44052. He will be greatly missed - Captain Joey always!
