Joseph Yuricich LORAIN — Joseph Yuricich, 81, of Lorain, died Monday, May 20, 2013 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain. He was born March 16, 1932 in Lorain where he was a lifelong resident. Joe graduated from Lorain High School in the class of 1950A. He earned an Associate Degree from Fenn College and had attended Lorain County Community College and Miami University. Joe served with the US Navy from 1950-1954 during the Korean War. He was a recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, the United Nations Service Ribbon with 1 Star, the National Defense Medal, the Korean Service Ribbon with 1 Star and was awarded the Air Medal. Joe was employed by the Ford Motor Company and retired as an Engineering Department Manager at the Avon Lake Econoline Plant. He started with Ford at the Lorain Assembly Plant during its construction in 1957. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Elyria Township, a member of the Croatian Lodge #136 and a life member of AMVETS Post #22 in Vermilion. Joe was a bowler most of his life, enjoyed snow skiing and playing golf but his favorite pastime was flying. He was a Multi-Engine Instrument Rated Pilot and was a partner in several different aircraft. He is survived by his wife of 57 years Marjorie Yuricich (nee Vidrick); daughter Doreen Koenig (Jack) of Lorain; son Dean Yuricich (Kamela) of Columbus; granddaughters Erica Koenig and Jillian and Rachel Yuricich; and brother Richard Yuricich (Lorna) of Cape Cod, Massachusetts. He was preceded in death by his parents Anthony and Anna Yuricich (nee Plesivac); sisters Rose Jancar and Geraldine Ebenschweller and brothers Matthew and Frank “Hammer” Yuricich. The family will receive friends Thursday 4-8 p.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain where funeral services will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. Donald Dunson, pastor of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain where the Vermilion Veterans Council will conduct military honors.
