Robert John Adams, Sr. LORAIN — Robert John Adams, Sr., 83 years of age, and a resident of Lorain, passed quietly into the prepense of the Lord, Monday, June 17, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born February 23, 1930 in Lorain, Ohio, where he was a lifetime resident. Bob proudly served in the United States Army. During his service, he was a member of the United States Peace Keeping force in Germany, acting as a map topographer. Bob was a member of St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Parish in Lorain. He was very athletic and enjoyed walking, fishing, golfing, bowling, skating and playing ice hockey. His greatest joy was running and was known by many in Lorain for his presence on the streets as he trained for over 800 races, and six marathons, including the Boston Marathon. He was a member of LOCO runners club. In his spare time, Bob enjoyed artistic drawing, building cabinets, crafts and remodeling and as age demanded walking instead of running at the French Creek Park in Sheffield with his son David and dog King. He loved traveling and spending time with his family. Robert was a 40 year retiree of US Steel in Lorain. He was known by many and loved by all. Bob leaves to cherish his memory his wife of fifty-seven years Marlene Adams (nee: Henry); his sons Robert J., Jr. and his wife Pam, Michael G. and his wife Mary of Belle Center, Ohio, David A. Adams of Lorain, Randy S. and his wife Eileen of Sheffield Village; his daughters and their husbands Susan C. and Francisco Lopez of Southern California, Leslie L. and Al Speigle of Avon, Carol A. and Luis Martinez of Bradenton, Florida; ten grandchildren; twenty-three great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; brother Jack Adams of Lorain; sisters Johnna Waitt of Amherst, Pauline Adams of Lorain, Jane Prunner of Las Vegas, NV, and Beverly Ockajik of Amherst. He was preceded in death by his sisters Lorraine Neal, Agnes Vargo; and his parents John A. and Susie Adams (nee: Banyas). A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday June 22, 2013 at 12 p.m. at . St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church; 2143 Homewood Drive, Lorain. The Rev. Fr. John C. Retar, pastor of St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Parish in Lorain will officiate with military honors given by the United States Army Funeral Honor Guard. A reception will follow services at St. Frances Cabini Catholic Church's St. John hall from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. Hempel Funeral Home of Amherst is honored to serve the family of Robert Adams, Sr. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the
