LORAIN - Stella Mathewson, age 88 of Lorain, died Monday, July 15, 2013 in the Kingston of Vermilion Nursing Center. She was born October 27, 1924 in Lorain, and was a lifelong resident.
Stella was a parishioner of Nativity B.V.M. Church and its Altar and Rosary Society. She was past president of the Amherst Eagles, and belonged to the Lorain Auxiliary Police Dept. in the 70's, and enjoyed playing cards and bingo.
She is survived by sons Craig A. (Mary Jo) Mathewson, and David T. (Terri) Mathewson both of Lorain, 6 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren, along with a sister Julia Thomas of Lady Lake, FL.
She was preceded in death by her husband Norman L. in 1964, a son Norman W. in 1998, and sisters Kate Striker, Mary Frolick, Helen Naymik, and Anna Bezgatzki, and her parents Theodore and Rose Jazyk.
Friends may call Thursday from 9:30 a.m. till 10:30 a.m. in Reichlin-Cooley Funeral Home 2920 Broadway, Lorain. Closing prayers will begin at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home followed by 11 a.m. Funeral Mass at Nativity B.V.M. Church. Fr. Gerald J. Keller will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
