Fred E. Bratschi Obituary
SANDUSKY - Fred E. Bratschi, 93, formerly of Brownhelm Township, died Friday, August 2, 2013 at the Ohio Veteran's Home, Sandusky where he had been a resident for the past 6 years.
Fred was born February 19, 1920 in Cleveland, OH, and had been a lifelong Brownhelm Township resident before moving to the veteran's home.
He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during WWII under the command of General George Patton's 2nd Armored Division. He received the European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with 1 Silver Service Star, the American Defense Service Medal, the American Theater Ribbon, and a Purple Heart, having been wounded three times.
Fred worked for Ford Automotive Plant, Lorain as an inspector for 25 years retiring in 1984.
He was a member of the Vermilion AMVETS Post #22, Vermilion American Legion Post #397, DAV, and the Vermilion VFW Post #7576. He enjoyed farming, traveling and gardening.
He is survived by his niece, Marie (Mitch) Holland of Vermilion, who he raised as a daughter, and her children Michael (April) Holland and Chris (Brandi) Holland who thought of Fred as their grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his by his wife Louise Bratschi on October 28, 1990, parents Ernest and Marie (nee Hirbrunner) Bratschi, his brother, Edward Bratschi on March 14, 2000 and his sister, Mary Harpley on September 28, 1994.
The family will receive friends on Monday, August 5th from 4-7 P.M. at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South St., Vermilion. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 10:00 A.M. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Brownhelm Cemetery, Vermilion where the Vermilion Veterans Council will conduct military honors.
The family suggests memorial contributions to Stein Hospice, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, OH 44870, or the Brownhelm Historical Society.
