Carl J. Mandoke Obituary
ELYRIA - Carl J. Mandoke, 79, of Elyria, passed away August 31, 2013, at home with his family by his side. He had suffered the effects of Parkinson's Disease for the last 26 years and was under the compassionate care of New Life Hospice.
He graduated from Lorain High School in 1952 and entered the United States Army in 1955, where he served as a military police security. He was honorably discharged in 1963.
He married his wife, Barbara, in 1959 and attended Kent State University, graduating in 1962. He obtained a position at the American Greetings Corporation in Cleveland and attended Fenn College in the evenings to become a certified public school teacher in art. In 1964, he was hired by the Lorain County Board of Education to teach art in the Keystone Local School District, where he was the sole instructor for grades 1 through 12 at three schools. He later became the high school art teacher and enjoyed teaching a total of 30 years in the Keystone District.
Carl was familiar with all phases of fine and commercial art, but especially enjoyed painting in watercolors. He became a very talented local watercolorist, painting local scenes and instructing adults in the media.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Barbara (Browne) Mandoke; son, Carl S. (Nancy); and daughter, Laura (Randy) Piar; 5 grandchildren, Ryan Mandoke, Joel Mandoke, Chad Mandoke, Emily Mandoke, and Brandon Piar; sister, Carol Downs; nieces, Lisa and Claudia; and nephew, Eric.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Donna; and father, Joe F. Mandoke.
The memorial service will be private. All arrangements are being handled by the Misencik Funeral Home, 36363 Detroit Rd., Avon.
