AMHERST TOWNSHIP - William "Bill" "Skillet" Edward Hughey, 78 years of age, and a resident of Amherst Township, passed away Saturday, October 5, 2013, at Amherst Manor following a brief illness. |
He was born August 15, 1935 in Olive Branch, Mississippi. Bill was raised in Mississippi before enlisted in the United States Army. He lived in Tennessee before coming to the Amherst Township area where he had made his home for the last forty-seven years.
Bill proudly served in the United States Army. He was employed at Lorain Ford Motor Company for forty-four years before retiring in the maintenance department as a truck driver. Bill was a member of the Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #118, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 116 and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie # 1442 all of Amherst.
Survivors include sons James Matthew Hughey of New York, Damien W. Hughey of Amherst, and his daughter Victoria L. Sweeney of Lorain; grandchildren Charles and Neil Franklin, Patrica Sweeney, Lexie Hughey, Damien Hughey, Dominic Hughey, Lucas Hughey and Levi Hughey as well as two great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of thirty-seven years Patricia Ann Hughey (nee: Wilson); brothers Robert and Roy Hughey; and his parents Charlie and Alice Hughey (nee: Stewart).
Friends may call Saturday, October 12, 2013, from 10 - 12 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held the same day on Saturday at 12 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain, Ohio. Full Military Honors will be given by the Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard.
