Edward Emil Greiner Obituary
BUCKEYE, Ariz. - Edward Emil Greiner, 87 years of age, and a resident of Buckeye, Ariz., formerly of Amherst, passed away Friday, January 3, 2014 at his daughter's home following a sudden illness.
He was born June 1, 1926 in Elyria, Ohio. Edward moved to Amherst in 1945 where he had made his home for sixty-seven years, graduating from Vermilion High School in the class of 1944. In 2012, he moved to Arizona to be with his daughter.
He proudly served in the United States Navy as a frog man. Edward was employed in the substation construction department with Ohio Edison for thirty-five years before retiring in 1986. He was active with the Buckeye area senior program. Edward was a member of Park Avenue United Methodist Church in Amherst. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #118 in Amherst. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, old movies, "Big Band" music, and wrestling with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his sons and their wives Gary W. and Rita Greiner of Amherst, Kim E. and Alba Greiner of St. Petersburg, Fla., Kevin L. and Linda Greiner of North Ridgeville; his daughter and her husband Gail and Bob Parker of Buckeye, Ariz.; his grandchildren Kelly Simo, Dawn (Anthony) Workman, Kevin Michael (Tara), Kandiss Greiner, Jason (Helen), David (fiancé Katrina Bailey), Kimberly Greiner (Willie) Keene, Robert (Kaye) Parker, Dustin (fiancé Emily Lockhart) and fourteen great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of forty-nine years Janice E. Greiner (nee: Standen) on June 4, 1997; his son Emil Edward Greiner in 1951; his brother Albert Greiner in 1945; his sister Josephine Pearl in 1931; and his parents Emil and Lucille Greiner (nee: Holland); step mother Genevieve (nee: Holland).
Friends may call Tuesday, January 14, 2014, from 4-8 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Daniel Reinke, pastor of Park Avenue United Methodist Church will officiate. Military Honors will be provided by the Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard. Burial will follow at Brownhelm Cemetery, Brownhelm Township.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to American Heart, American Cancer and American Diabetes, Alzheimer's Foundation or to Disable American Veterans.
