NORWALK - Robert L. Baum, 65, of Norwalk, Ohio died early Tuesday morning, February 25, 2014, in Firelands Regional Medical Center after a courageous battle with anaplastic thyroid cancer.
He was born April 8, 1948 in Norwalk, Ohio to the late LeRoy F. and Lois (Schwanger) Baum and was a lifelong area resident. Robert was a veteran of the U.S.
serving in Vietnam. He was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, Norwalk, Ohio and a 1966 graduate of Western Reserve High School. Robert was a lifelong farmer, a longtime employee of Wicks Lumber Company. He enjoyed traveling, especially train and riverboat travel, and vegetable gardening.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Jackie (Tretter) Baum; his daughters and sons in law, Jessica S. and Brian Mehus, of Indiana, Pennsylvania, and Wendy L. and Jake Mathiason of Golden Valley, Minnesota; by his grandson Theo J. Mathiason; by his sister and brother in law, Lynda and Don Davis, of Loveland, Colorado; and special cousins, nieces and nephews..
He was preceded by his brother Larry Baum and by his sister Judy Dunn.
Friends may call on Sunday, March 2, 2014 from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in Walker Funeral Home, 98 West Main St., Norwalk, Ohio. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 3, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Peter Lutheran Church 257 Benedict Ave. Norwalk, Ohio. Rev. David Connor will officiate.
