Alverta Marie Haag
Sept. 8, 1920 - June 16, 2012

Age 91, of Breckenridge passed away Saturday, June 16, 2012 at Schnepp Senior Care and Rehab Center in St. Louis.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at 1 p.m. at the First Congregational Church in Breckenridge with Pastor Jerry Larkin officiating. Interment will be in Ridgelawn Cemetery, Breckenridge. Visitation will be held Monday, June 18, 2012 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Lux and Whiting Funeral Chapel, Breckenridge. Memorial contributions may be made to the or the First Congregational Church.
Alverta was born September 8, 1920 in Lafayette Township the youngest child of Daniel and Gertrude (Becker) Baker. She was a 1938 graduate of Breckenridge High School and earned her teaching degree from Central Michigan University. Alverta taught for 10 years at a country school and later taught kindergarten for 20 years at Merrill Elementary School, retiring in 1975. On December 8, 1945 she married Willard Haag in Angola, Indiana. She was a member of the First Congregational Church, Breckenridge and the Order of the Eastern Start.
Alverta had a great love for all her students and took the time to make each and every child feel special, even after they left her classroom. She had great attention to detail and enjoyed planning family gathers, retirement partys and get togethers. She loved to plan these events to show others how much she cared for them. She was always there to brighten others day with a friendly conversation. She enjoyed attedening Food for Friends for 23 years and was always bringing something extra for everyone there. Even to the end of her days she was a joy to the nurses and staff that cared for her, being around her made their days better.
Alverta is survived by her son, Martin (Jeannine) Haag of Alma; three grandchildren, Jacqueline (Erik) Vanderpol of Lynden, WA, Matthew (Jennifer) Haag of Shepherd and Michelle (fiance, Craig Freestone) Haag of Alma; four great grandchildren, Nolan and Marley Vanderpol, Keegan and Cameron Haag.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Willard in 1980; and her siblings, Leo Baker, Sylvia Oakes, Alton Baker, Alvia Baker and Donald Baker.
