Sherwood Herrington age 85, of Breckenridge formerly of Otisville, passed away Friday, September 17, 2010 at the Gratiot Medical Center in Alma.

Sherwood was born May 27, 1925, in Otisville, Michigan the son of George A. and Ruth E. (Harris) Herrington. He married Ona Decker on September 27, 1947. Sherwood honorably served his country in the United States Navy during WWII. After the war he was a farm and home distributor for the Standard Oil Company in Swartz Creek and later in Breckenridge. He retired from Coastal Tank Lines in 1978. He was a member of the Breckenridge United Methodist Church, Breckenridge American Legion and a former member of the Breckenridge Masonic Lodge. Sherwood was involved in the Little League baseball program and enjoyed spending time with family, hunting, fishing, farming, golf and bowling.

Sherwood was a kind and sharing man by donating to various charities and he was always willing to lend a helping hand.

Sherwood is survived by his children, Janice (James) Peters of Newago, Diane (Ron) Moye of Phoenix, Arizona, Sherlene (Kevin) Kolberg of Allegan, George (Renee) Herrington of Breckenridge and Keith (Kathy) Herrington of Midland, 18 grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and a sister, Donna (Burt) Willson of Otisville. Also special friend Emily Greening of Breckenridge.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Ona, two brothers Donald and Delbert and two sisters Helen and Noreen.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 21, 2010, at 11 a.m. at the Breckenridge United Methodist Church with Pastor Dale Golden officiating. Interment will be in Ridgelawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Lux and Whiting Funeral Chapel, Breckenridge.
