Mengarelli, August "Gene" - Pittsburg  
August "Gene" E. Mengarelli, 73, passed away at 10:27 p.m. Saturday, August 20, 2016 at the Via Christi Hospital surrounded by his family. He was born February 19, 1943 at his parent's home in rural Girard, Kansas to August and Cleo Fern (Gilbert) Mengarelli. He graduated from Girard High School. He attended and graduated from Bethel College in North Newton, Kansas, where he also played football. Later he graduated from Saint Paul School of Theology in Overland Park, KS. On July 4, 1965, he was united in marriage to Doris Wiens at Inman, Kansas. They lived in many different places, following where Mr. Mengarelli taught and coached for 17 years. He was a teacher and coach at West Mineral, Southeast High School, Cherryvale and Kingman schools. He was called to ministry at Farlington United Methodist Church in Farlington, Kansas. Mr. Mengarelli served as a minister for the Methodist Church in Longton, KS, Elk Falls, KS and Robinson, KS. Membership was held in the First Church of the Nazarene in Pittsburg. He was also active in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes; helped with recovery groups and was a mentor to many. One of his greatest joys was being with family and mentoring those in need. Survivors include his wife, Doris Mengarelli of the home; three sons, Greg Mengarelli and his wife, Sheila of Prescott, AZ, Kris Mengarelli and his wife, Amy of Pittsburg, and Darin Mengarelli and his wife, Becky of McCune, KS; one brother, Jim Mengarelli of Girard, KS; three sisters, Barbara Babcock of Arma, KS, Beverly Vogel of Topeka, KS, and Rachelle Mengarelli of Arma, KS; and ten grandchildren, Cameron, Brady, Austin, Brooklyn, Sheridan, Gavin, Lauren, Will, Karis, and Gunner. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Roselle Gorrell. Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, August 28, 2016 at First Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Jim Sukraw officiating. Burial will follow in the Union Cemetery. The casket will remain closed. Friends may call at the funeral home to sign the register book from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Saturday. There will also be a memorial service in Prescott, Arizona, date and time to be determined. The family suggests memorials to United Christian Youth Camp at Prescott, AZ or the First Church of the Nazarene in Pittsburg. Metzinger, Vikki - Dexter  
Vikki Ann Metzinger, 74, of Dexter, Kansas, passed away Tuesday evening, August 23, 2016 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. Born July 25, 1942 in Winfield, Kansas, she was the daughter of Chet and Myrtle (Miller) Andes. She was raised and received her education in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School in 1960. After school she went to work for the Winfield State Hospital and Training Center where she worked as an Occupational Therapist. Vikki was united in marriage to Donald L. Metzinger on August 8, 1967 in Newkirk, Oklahoma. The couple made their first home in Winfield before moving to Dexter and establishing the family farm in 1968. Vikki helped with many tasks on the farm but her main joy was breeding, raising and training horses. Mr. Metzinger preceded her in death on February 13, 1993. She was a member of Tisdale United Methodist Church and later attended Maple City Community Church. She was also a member of the American Quarter Horse Association. In addition to working with horses, Vikki enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren compete in many rodeos. Her family includes: Her sons: Donald Wayne Metzinger of Winfield; Joseph William Metzinger and wife, Kathleen of Wichita; Her daughters: Christine Theresa Storm and husband, David of Geuda Springs; Shauni Lynn Leftwich and husband, Todd of Winfield; Shandi LaDonna Scales and husband, Mark Joseph of Pittsburg; Her brothers: Donnie Andes and wife, Janice of Winfield; Tommy Andes and wife, Sharon of Winfield; and her 11 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, Vikki was preceded in death by, two brothers, Willis and Gary Andes. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at Dexter Cemetery in Dexter. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday evening, August 29, 2016 from 4 to 8. The family will greet visitors that evening. A memorial has been established in Vikki's name for the Kansas State High School Rodeo Association. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
