Dwain Melford Rhuems Sr., 88, of Pittsburg, passed away at 11:40 a.m. Thursday, February 6, 2014, at Freeman Hospital, Joplin, MO.
Dwain was born January 9, 1926, at Pittsburg, KS, the son of Howard M. and Ruth D. (Pryer) Rhuems.
On December 2, 1949 he was united in marriage to Wanda L. Tolliver of Arma, KS. This marked the beginning of a marriage that lasted 64 years. She survives of the home.
He was a lifelong resident of the area and attended Pittsburg schools. Dwain worked for Dickey Clay for 31 years. He worked for Jim Radell Construction and the City of Pittsburg before retiring in 1991.
During his 23 years of blissful retirement, Dwain enjoyed gardening, camping, fishing, hunting, and spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, John Rhuems and his wife Theresa of Pittsburg, KS and a daughter-in-law, Sherry Rhuems of Sarcoxie, MO.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a son Dwain Rhuems Jr.
Dwain is also survived by brothers Milton Rhuems of Pittsburg, Robert Rhuems of Pittsburg, Jim Rhuems and his wife Dodie of Pittsburg, Warren Rhuems and his wife Sarajean of Frontenac, KS, and Russell Rhuems of Pittsburg, KS, two sisters, Ruth Hendrickson of Pittsburg, KS, and Kay Buchanan and her husband Ron of Tomball, TX.
He is preceded in death by a brother, Orville Rhuems.
Dwain is also survived by eight grandchildren, Ryan Rhuems, Ashley Robison, Melissa Stone, Cody Rhuems, Heather Lang, Josh Johnson, Catlyn Hall, and Jessica Johnson. , 11 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Memorial Services will be 2:00 P.M. Monday (Feb. 10) at the Brenner Mortuary with Pastor Daryl Gaddy officiating. Private Burial will be at a later date in the Blackjack Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Monday at the Brenner Mortuary. The family suggests memorials to the Leukemia Foundation and/or Angels Among Us.
