Fred Earl Evans 72, of Columbus, KS died 8:15am Thursday January 2, 2014 at the Kansas University Medical Center in Kansas City, KS following an illness.
Fred was born December 31, 1941 in Columbus, KS the son of Marion Lopp and Constance Jane (Hurt) Evans. He was a lifelong resident of the area and attended area schools and was a graduate of Columbus High School. He later furthered his education at Pittsburg State University.
On June 14, 1964 Fred married Nancy Phillips in Columbus, KS; she survives at the home.
Fred had many interest including farming, ranching, carpentry and taught school at the Vocational Technical School teaching building trades at the Columbus Campus.
Fred was a member of the Methodist Church in Columbus, KS; member of the DeMolay; one of the original members of the JCs; Kansas Vocational Teacher's Association; Past Board Member Kansas Limousin Association and The North American Limousin Foundation.
Fred will be most remembered by his strong will and his devotion to family.
Survivors include his wife; children Phil Evans and wife Neely of Columbus, KS and Paul Evans and wife Stephanie of Columbus, KS; siblings Richard Evans and wife Betty of Webb City, MO; sister in-law Marie Nepple of Columbus, KS; mother in-law Esther Phillips of Columbus, KS; brother in-law Jim Phillips and wife Nancy of Omaha, NE; grandchildren Corbin, Allie, Garrett, Haley, Madi and Rylee; nieces and nephews Mendy Evans and Rick Evans of Denver, CO, Kelli Brandt and husband Scott of Nebraska City, NE and Julie Frampton and husband Terry of Misawa, Japan; and several cousins.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents and father in-law Jim Phillips.
Funeral Services will be 10am Monday January 6, 2014 at the Methodist Church in Columbus, KS with Pastor Tom Goettle officiating. Private burial will take place at a later date. Family will receive friends from 6-7pm Sunday January 5, 2014 at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Columbus, KS. In lieu of flowers the family asks expressions of sympathy to be in the form of memorials to Grace for the Journey a local cancer support group and/or United Methodist Church Food Pantry.
