Mary A. (Hammack) Pontious(1942 - 2014)

Mary A. (Hammack) Pontious, 71, of Pittsburg, died at 7:56 p.m., Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg.
She was born November 11, 1942 in Cherryvale, Kansas to Allen Glenn and Rutheen D. (Metcalf) Hammack. She attended schools in Parsons and Altamont.
In early years she had worked as a waitress, and later at the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant, Broderick's, and Wal-Mart as a cashier for several years.
She was a former member of T.O.P.S. and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing bingo and going to casinos.
She and James L. Pontious were married May 2, 2009 at the First Christian Church in Parsons. He survives of the home.
In addition to her husband, survivors include: mother – Rutheen Hammack, Parsons, KS; two daughters – Rutheen McCartney and husband, Calvin, Waukomis, OK, and Barbie Kuehl and husband, Dean, Kingfisher, OK; numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; four brothers – David Hammack, Parsons, KS, Bobby Hammack, Oklahoma, Fred Hammack and wife, Angie, Altamont, KS, and Roger Hammack and wife, Vickie, Elk City, KS; and aunt – Londa Mae Metcalf, Parsons, KS.
She was preceded in death by her father and one sister, Carol Martin.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Monday, January 20, 2014 at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Cherryvale. The family will receive friends from 3-4:00 p.m., Sunday, at the funeral home.
