MULBERRY - Ramona M. Duncan, 85, of Mulberry, Kan., died at 10:40 a.m. Monday, Dec. 30, 2013 at the home of her son, T.J.
Mrs. Duncan was born Dec. 19, 1928, at Deepwater, Mo., the daughter of Eli and Dora Walden Smith. Ramona was a homemaker, owner of Duncan Sundries for 19 1/2 years, and later worked for at Jones Drug Store in Liberal, Mo., and Ramsey's store in Pittsburg. She was City Treasurer in Mulberry for 21 years, helped organize the Mulberry Homecoming, and in 1977 was the first person to turn on the Christmas lights. She was raised in Deepwater, Mo., and graduated from Deepwater High School. She lived most of her life in Mulberry. She married Thomas J. Duncan on July 17, 1948, at Arcadia, Kan. Mr. Duncan preceded her in death Sept. 10, 2009. She was a member of the Mulberry Presbyterian Church, the American Legion Auxiliary Mulberry, in which she served as President, the A.A.R.P., and was a member and past president of the Mulberry Senior Citizens Center. Survivors include a son, T.J. (Brenda) Duncan of Mulberry; a sister, Wanda Reynolds of Kansas City, Mo.; two brothers, Don Smith of Grandview, Mo., and Earl Smith of Clinton, Mo.; a granddaughter, Toni (Alisha) Duncan of Mulberry; two step-grandchildren, Brandon (Stormy) Carter of Mulberry and B.J. (Amber) Carter of Kansas City, Kan.; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and four brothers, Francis, Bobby, Wayne, and Leon Smith.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 3, 2014, at the Bedene Funeral Home in Arma with the Rev. Bob Cuthbertson officiating. Burial will be at the family mausoleum at Rosebank Cemetery at Mulberry. The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. Thursday at the Bedene Chapel where friends may call after 11 a.m. Thursday. The family suggests memorials to the Via Christi Cancer Center. Donations may be sent to or left at the Bedene Funeral Home, 517 E. Washington, Box 621, Arma, KS 66712.
