Richard L. "Rich" Highfill, 88, of Girard, passed away Tuesday, September 3, 2013, at the Heritage Nursing Home of Girard.
Rich was born December 21, 1924 in Hepler, Kansas, a son of Frank and Grace (Huber) Highfill. Rich grew up in Hepler and attended school there, later graduating from Girard High School.
Rich served in the United States Army from November 1943 until April 1946.
Rich was a representative for Citgo Oil Company; obtaining land leases for oil extraction.
On September 23, 1991, Rich and Eileen (Ausemus) Reynolds were united in marriage in Miami, OK, Eileen preceded him in death on July 27, 2002.
Rich was a member of the First Christian Church and the American Legion Post # 26 both of Girard. Rich enjoyed golf, woodworking, polka dancing and dominos.
Rich is survived by two daughters; Terry Smith and husband Gregg; Jan Azember and husband Gerald, both of Girard; one brother; George Highfill of Aurora, Colorado and one sister; Fern Ham of Parsons; 11 Grandchildren; Krista Sandy, Robin Hawkins, Kelli Lopez, Kayla Greif, Jill Davied, Joni Benso, Justin Smith, Jacob Smith, Becky Zoglmann, Chris Boone, Devin McWilliams; 27 Great-Grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, Rich was preceded in death by three children; Garry Highfill; Donna Highfill and Toni Boone; two brothers; Jake Highfill and Tom Highfill; one sister Mary Barrett.
Funeral services for Rich Highfill will be 10:00 a.m., Friday at the Smith-Carson Wall Funeral Home in Girard with Reverend Doug Amend officiating. Burial will follow in the Girard Cemetery with military services by the V.F.W
. Post # 704 of Parsons, Kansas. Visitation will be held Thursday from 7:00 p.m. till 8:00 p.m., at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2:00 p.m. Thursday.
