Mr. Wilfred Lee Johnson, age 85, of Nevada, Texas, formerly of Billings, Missouri, passed away on Wednesday, January 29, 2014, in the Baylor Medical Center, Garland, Texas. He was born on October 1, 1928, in Keytesville, Missouri, the son of Howard Rufus and Mildred (Maupin) Johnson.
Wilfred served his country during the Korean War
in the U.S. Army. He was a former Kansas City firefighter
, as well as former deputy sheriff in Kansas and Missouri. He retired from U.S. Gypsum after working as the plant manager and over 30 years of employment.
He was united in marriage to Bessie Jean Hackett on July 18, 1948 in Independence, Missouri, and they enjoyed 65 years of marriage before Bessie passed away on October 13, 2013. They had made their home in Billings, Missouri for the past 28 years.
He was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Keith's twin, Winifred Kay; his parents; and a brother, Donald Johnson.
Wilfred is survived by his two children and their spouses, Wilfred Keith and Brenda Johnson, Springfield, Missouri, and Carla and Roger Elliott, Dallas, Texas; four grandchildren, Cody Lee Elliott, Brock Johnson, Kelby Johnson, and Elissa Elliott, and a new grandchild due in May; three great grandchildren, Grace Lynn Elliott, Ashton Dawn Elliott, and Halle Elliott; other relatives and friends.
A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, February 5, 2014, in Meadors Funeral Home, Republic, Missouri. The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, February 6, 2014, in the funeral home. Burial, with military honors, will be in Cross Timbers Cemetery, Cross Timbers, Missouri, where Wilfred will be buried next to Bessie. Online condolences may be shared at www.meadorsfuneralhome.com
