Makenzie Kay Forbes Obituary
Makenzie Kay Forbes, 24, of Parsons, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at 8:45 p.m., Monday, August 25, 2014 at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, following a courageous lifetime battle with Cystic Fibrosis.
She was born May 22, 1990 in Parsons, Kansas to Michael David and Jennifer Kay (Hubbard) Forbes. Makenzie was a lifelong resident of Parsons where she attended St. Patrick Elementary School and was a 2008 graduate of Parsons High School where she was a Dustkicker and member of Key Club and National Honor Society. Following high school, she attended Pittsburg State University.
Makenzie had a strong faith in God and was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Parsons. She prayed constantly for others and was never too busy to listen to those in need. She generously used her personal experiences to give encouragement and advice to others who were suffering. She had a constant will to learn and a stronger will to live; she was an inspiration to so many. She loved spending time with family and friends, especially the little children in her life. She started planning for next year's Christmas on December 26th every year, thoughtfully and joyfully planning the events and gifts she wanted to enjoy with loved ones. She blessed us with a delightful and off-the-wall sense of humor. Her wit was sharp and deep (TWSS). In any situation, whether pleasant or painful, Makenzie had a way of making people laugh. She was also the person to call and include when something funny or absurd took place since it was such a joy to laugh with her. She loved reading, decorating, DIY projects and crafts (especially making tutus for her cousins), and watching old Marilyn Monroe movies and television shows, including Murder She Wrote, The Golden Girls, and Family Guy. She was a budding author of children's books and most recently started her own business hosting Princess Parties where she demonstrated her creativity and shared in making a child's day special.
Survivors include her parents, Michael and Jennifer Forbes, Parsons, KS; her sister, Alexandria ""Ally"" Forbes, Pittsburg, KS; maternal grandmother, Rosemary Hubbard, Pittsburg, KS; maternal grandfather, Don Hubbard, Pittsburg, KS; paternal grandparents, Michael and Evelyn Forbes, Parsons, KS; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; and a host of friends.
The funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 29, 2014 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Parsons. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. The rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, at the church. The family will receive friends immediately following the rosary from 7-9:00 p.m., in Parish Hall at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or St. Patrick Catholic School. These may be left at or mailed to Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 374, Parsons, KS 67357.
