Matt Angelo Batalia Obituary
Matt Angelo Batalia, 55 of Pittsburg died at 10:20 a.m. Saturday March 15, 2014 at his home in Pittsburg.
He was born November 4, 1958 in Cincinnati, OH the son of Arthur and Opal Maxine (Humble). He was a lifetime resident of the Southeast Kansas Area.
Matt was a graduate of Southeast High School in Cherokee.
He was a veteran serving in the United States Navy beginning in 1977 and was honorably discharged in 1983.
Matt married Marilyn Dee Wilson (Batalia) on October 19, 1992 in Quapaw, OK; she survives at the home.
He worked as a CDM (Certified Dietary Manager) and a CFPP (Certified Food Protection Professional).
Matt umpired Little League Baseball, was a coach for Special Olympics and New Hope Services and was an avid PSU Football fan.
Survivors include his wife of 21 years Marilyn Batalia of the home; daughter Maggie Batalia and her fiancÈ Andrew Moore and their baby Kayden Matthew Joseph Moore all of Pittsburg; son Shawn Batalia and wife Chris and their daughter Hailey Ann Batalia and soon to be grandson Caleb Tine Batalia all of Shawnee; daughter Megan Givens and husband Steven and their daughter Peighton Genevieve Givens all of Olathe; his father Arthur Bataglia of Fairborn, OH; a brother Art Batalia and wife Judy of Winthrop, IL; and a brother-in-law Cale Deboutez of Pittsburg. He was preceded in death by his mother and mother-in-law Sharon Kay Gaches.
According to Matt's wishes he has been taken for cremation. Memorial services will be 6 p.m. Tuesday March 18th, 2014 at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg with Pastor Jan Veatch-Yoger officiating. The family will receive friends following the memorial service until 8 p.m. Condolences can be sent to www.bathnaylor.com Memorial contributions can be made to the Via Christi Hospital Cancer Center.
