Robert F. "Bob" Cobb Jr. Obituary
Robert "Bob" Cobb, Jr., also known as "Catfish" 91, of Pittsburg, passed away at 7:38 p.m. on Monday, April 14, 2014, at the Carrington Place in Pittsburg, KS.
He was born September 8, 1922, in Pittsburg, KS, the son of Robert F. and Mable (Cox) Cobb, Sr. He attended Pittsburg schools and graduated from Pittsburg High School in 1940.
On December 1942, Bob enlisted in the US Army. He served in WWII and was honorably discharged in November 1945 as a First Sergeant.
He was united in marriage to Arlean R. Holden on July 12, 1947 in Pittsburg, KS. She preceded him in death on February 6, 2008.
Bob worked for the U.S. Postal service as a letter carrier for many years retiring in 1977. He later worked at Crestwood Country Club and at Four Oaks Golf Course. Bob loved to play golf. He had 9 career holes-in-one. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed bowling on an all "lefties" team for many years.
Membership was held at the Countryside Christian Church and also a loved part of the Centralia United Methodist Church.
Bob is survived by two daughters, Beverly Reynolds and her husband Ed, of Centralia, MO, and Linda Black of Joplin, MO; a brother Carl Cobb of Pittsburg, KS; five grandchildren Mandy Reynolds, Jennifer Oxford, Jason Reynolds, Jamie Black, and Rob Grassi; 10 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife, parents, and three brothers, Luther, Harold, and Charles Cobb.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, April 18, 2014, at the Countryside Christian Church with Vance Russell officiating. Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery, with graveside military rites provided by the Kansas National Guard Military Funeral Honors. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m., Thursday, at the Brenner Mortuary. The family suggests memorials to the Countryside Christian Church and/or the Centralia United Methodist Church.
