PITTSBURG, KS – Mary L. Jones, 102, a retired dental assistant, of Pittsburg, died Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg.
She was born December 13, 1911 in Barton County, Missouri the daughter of Michele and Marguerite Bettega. She had been a resident of Pittsburg since 1923 and was a graduate of Pittsburg High School.
She married Marcus G. "Red" Jones in 1933 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Pittsburg, KS and he preceded her in death on May 11, 1973.
Mary worked at the Kansas Army Ammunitions Plant in Parsons, Bell South in Pittsburg, manager of the Kirkwood Apartments and was a dental assistant for Dr. Cheek for 13 years and Dr. Hough for 17 years, both in Pittsburg. She was a care giver to her sister Teresa Ahrens for many years.
She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Pittsburg, St. Mary's Altar Society, Sacred Heart Catholic Church adoration chapel in Frontenac, volunteered at the St. Mary's Goodwill Center in Pittsburg for many years, member of the Mt. Carmel Auxiliary in Pittsburg, was an avid golfer, loved to fish and was always ready to help family and friends.
Survivors include her daughter in law Betty Jones of Arma, three granddaughters Laura Warford that provided for her care, Shelly Burns and Brenda Lentz all of Arma, five great-grandchildren Jason Warford of North Carolina, Justin Warford and wife Jill of Arma, Jared Warford of Pittsburg, Sarah Steinbaugh and husband Randy of Pittsburg, and Danielle Burns of Pittsburg, and eight great-great-grandchildren, three nieces Maxine Grisolano and husband Jack of Pittsburg, Marilyn Decker and Husband Roy of Denver and Carolyn Winship and husband Bob of Union, Missouri.
She was preceded in death by her husband, son Jim J. Jones on January 13, 2012, two brothers Attiglio M. Bettega and Elmo A. Bettega, and one sister Teresa Ahrens.
Funeral services will be 11 am Monday, March 24, 2014 at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home, 522 S. Broadway in Pittsburg, with Father Michael Baldwin, officiating.
The family will receive friends at 10am Monday at the funeral home. The parish rosary will be recited at 10:45am Monday at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Highland Park Cemetery in Pittsburg. Friends may call from 2 to 5 pm Sunday at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home, 522 S. Broadway in Pittsburg. A memorial has been established to Our Lady of Lourdes Memorial Fund in care of the funeral home.
