Christopher "Greg" Saunders Obituary
Christopher "Greg" Saunders, 48 of Frontenac died at 3:10 p.m. Wednesday March 26, 2014 at the Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg.
He was born August 28, 1965 in Belleville, IL the son of Arnold and Rosalie Saunders. Greg grew up in the Pittsburg area and was a 1983 graduate of Colgan High School. Following high school he joined the Kansas National Guard and later enlisted in the United States Navy. He made the Navy his career and life for 26 years. He served on three tours in the Persian Gulf and was in Desert Storm. He was the officer in charge of electronic maintenance and weapons sighting of the F-14 Tomcat and other Naval aircraft. He was a Naval recruiter in Claremore, OK which covered the Crawford County area. He retired as a Lieutenant after serving on several air craft carriers all over the world.
He was of the Catholic Faith, was a member of the VFW and the North American Fishing Club.
Greg married Michelle L. McCoy on June 22, 2009 in Virginia Beach; she survives at the home.
Additional survivors include a son Kristopher G. Saunders of the home; a daughter Alexis M. Saunders of Virginia Beach; his mother Rosalie Saunders of Oxford, AL; his sister Stacy Allison and husband Jon and their daughter Brittany of Ringgold, GA and his grandmother Georgia S. Dinsmore, St. Louis, MO.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 2 p.m. Wednesday April 2, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Pittsburg with Father Rick Kotrba as celebrant. The parish rosary will be recited at 1:45 p.m. Wednesday also at the church just prior to the Mass. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Chattanooga Tennessee National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg.
